Welcome to the Chorley Stud and Flock, located in the village of Chorley, just west
of Lichfield, in South Staffordshire. A small, but busy farm, run by husband and
wife team, Jenny and Robert Alsop. We aim to breed Champion animals of the highest
quality – horses, ponies and sheep alike!
Robert – spent many hard working, but formative years, with the Bass Shire Horses
of Burton-on-Trent and then went on to develop his own ‘Breaking and Schooling’ of
Draught Horses business. He later spent several months timber extracting with Shire
horses in the National Forest. Concurrently, he ran a successful Stud, standing the
Shire Horse Stallion ‘Shortheath Stylish’ (who was hand
reared as an orphan foal).
After a break of a few years and moving to Chorley, horses and the Alsop family business
of Kerry Hill Sheep breeding has started again.
Jenny – née East, born in Hampshire, moved to the Midlands in 1987, once qualified
as a Veterinary Surgeon, to join the practice as an assistant of John Newcombe. Partnership
followed in 1992 and a very specialised Equine Reproduction Practice ‘Newcombe and
East’ developed, including Artificial Insemination (A.I.) with fresh, chilled and
frozen semen; Embryo Transfer; routine stud work of all breeds from Show Ponies,
Sport Horses, Thoroughbreds to Shire Horses; Walking in Thoroughbreds to all the
top TB Stallions in the country etc etc. A busy, but successful Small Animal side
of the practice has also
developed. Jenny has also competed with her own horses,
both home bred and purchased, in several spheres, winning both under saddle and in
hand with show horses, at County level. Her home produced horses have also competed
and been placed at Regional Dressage Finals.
Chorley Stud is gradually achieving its goals – breeding top class show animals,
specialising in coloured horses and shire horses. Our mare base is varied, but of
as near perfect conformation and show action as we can achieve.
